States in America Where Lottery is Illegal
In the United States most of the states have their local lotteries however there are still eight states which banned the lottery. These are Alabama, Hawaii, Arkansas, Alaska, Nevada, Utah, Mississippi and Wyoming. There are obvious reasons why those states banned a local lottery to operate. In three states namely; Utah, Mississippi and Alabama there are a number of religious groups opposing any gambling game or activity. However in Nevada, the state where the casino strip is the lottery is not allowed because it will produce too much competition for the businesses. There are states which because of the location are not ideal for having a lottery. They are isolated from the main land like Hawaii and the northern state of Alaska. There are still some fans of the lottery that hopes that their states will change its stand on having a lottery. If they make this possible the said states will not only have an exciting form of amusement but they can also later on participate in the multi million dollar games like power ball.
Alabama
In the year,1999 the state constitution was amended to permit a lottery however the proposal was lsot because fifty four percent voted for the opposing side only forty six percent voted for it. The percentage of the total voters was around fifty percent. There are many Christians who opposed the concept.
Alaska
2003 was the year that the issue of having a lottery and other gambling activities became popular in Alaska. However it was not a strong proposal and the issue remained to be mere talks of implementations.
Arkansas
There is a lot of talk going in the state of Arkansas in April of this year (2008), when the governor informed everyone that they gathered more signatures to satisfy the proposal of having a lottery because back in 2000 many people from Arkansas opposed the idea. The people from Arkansas might just get their first experience of lottery.
Hawaii
Hawaii is also another American state where lotteries are not ideal at all. The politicians are hesitant about approving the proposal because it is not needed in their state to maintain the education for the people.
Mississippi
Mississippi is a state with many casinos but it doesn't have a single lottery. Any proposal is usually denied because of the competition with casinos that it will cause.
Nevada
Nevada has a similar stand with Mississippi because it always turns down the idea of having a lottery fearing that it will take many profits generated from casinos. However at the present time there have been a lot of talks proposing the first lottery in Nevada.
Utah
The reason why Utah does not have their own lottery is because of the oppositions from their religious sectors. Any gambling activity like casino games is also highly banned.
Wyoming
For many years Wyoming have struggles in having the proposal for a lottery in the state approved. There are many representatives opposing the idea. However it is not completely denied as the local government of Wyoming is still considering in having it. The people who live in the states without lotteries can still play lottery by logging onto the website of the national lottery. There are more people playing the lottery online since more people are already familiar with the use of the Internet.
