Prescott is Ready to Quit Says Lord SnapeDeputy Prime Minister John Prescott is reportedly ready to quit his post over the latest allegations against him, according to his friend, ex-Labour MP Peter Snape. Lord Snape has openly told London's Evening Standard newspaper that he was hoping for Prescott to remain strong and continue on his job. But then he added that he would understand Prescott in the event that he chooses to leave and give himself a break. Prescott has recently given in to pressure to enter his stay at an American tycoon's ranch in the House of Commons Register of Members' Interests. According to his spokesperson, Prescott and he had decided to make the entry to ensure that his integrity is kept intact in his meetings with Philip Anschutz who is known to be seeking to open a super- casino in the Millennium Dome. Sources said Standards Commissioner Sir Philip Mawer will write to Prescott to seek his explanation to reactions that the visit may have involved a conflict of interest and should have been entered in the Register of Interests. Meanwhile, Prescott's aides immediately reacted to reports and said Prescott is working on his post without any changes at all. Still, Prescott's spokesperson refused to tell media where Prescott is and instead insisted that he is busy with official conferences. The spokesperson also said they would not release details of Prescott's movements as part of the security efforts for Prescott's sake. |
